The Science of Productivity, Animated

Shockingly, when we look at some of the most elite musicians in the world, we find that they aren’t necessarily practicing more but, instead, more deliberately. This is because they spend more time focused on the hardest task and focus their energy in packets — instead of diluting their energy over the entire day, they have periods of intense work, followed by breaks. Not relying on willpower, they rely on habit and discipline scheduling. Studies have found that the most elite violinists in the world generally follow a 90-minute work regime, with a 15- to 20-minute break afterwards.

I’ve heard/read some harsh words for those of us advocating gun control in the wake of Sandy Hook.  One friend complained about those using the tragedy to push their pet projects.

I don’t want my children to die.

My need to keep my children alive is not a pet project.

I’m horrified, heartbroken, and absolutely sick over the loss of those children in CT.  I have not been able to get them out of my mind, my heart, and my prayers ever since I first heard the awful news.  I can’t even begin to imagine what those families are enduring, yet I can’t stop thinking about it and about those parents, siblings, friends, and families.

Do not mistake my desire to keep my children alive for a political agenda.

Well, this has to be the most ridiculous someecard that I’ve seen.
Fuck you kindly, good sir.

I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.

I HATE politics. This is mostly because the answer almost never lies in an extreme, and all political discourse seems to do is further polarize people to these extremes and leaves the rest in a void of apathy. Furthermore, I do not need pictures like this when I am seeking entertainment to escape the squabbling, horror, and tragedy of the real world…Rant over.

Hey tumblr I like you and all but I’m not reblogging pictures of grieving children to “show my support.” GTFO with that shit. Damn.

What’s worse is all of the news organizations interviewing these traumatized kids. Shit’s fucked up.
